Son 19 años, Compañeros y Compañeras, 19 años del Pueblo Presidente, 19 años de haber recibido una nefasta herencia neoliberal, que no podemos olvidar, sólo para reforzar dónde no debemos regresar.
Hace 19 años todos recordamos como nuestros hijos, los hijos de nuestro Pueblo, de ese Pueblo que asumió la Presidencia, eran retirados de las escuelas sino pagaban o no les daban las notas. Todos recordamos como nuestro Pueblo, llegaba a los hospitales ruinosos y salían con un rollo de recetas en las manos sin solución de sus problemas, además con la sensación con la intranquilidad, la inseguridad de que cada córdoba que gastaba en medicina tenía que haber decidido dejar de invertirlo en la comida del día; competía la compra de la comida con la compra de la medicina.
Son 19 años que nos queda para no volver jamás a aquellas terribles 12 horas de apagones, hace 19 años, debemos de recordar los aparatos destruidos que corrían las calles destruidas de nuestra capital, que le llamaban transporte urbano colectivo, ojalá quede como una terrible remembranza que nunca va a volver y que estamos seguros que no va a volver.
¿Cuál es la magia de la Revolución? ¿Cuál es la magia del Frente Sandinista?, ¿Cuál es la magia de los nicaragüenses?, ¿Cuál es la magia del Comandante Daniel y la Compañera Rosario, de todos los compañeros que han y hemos trabajado en todo este tiempo? La magia es subordinar todo a los intereses del Pueblo Presidente, esa es la magia.
La magia es sentir las necesidades del Pueblo Presidente, trabajar para el Pueblo, esa es la magia, porque estas maravillosas cifras que nos enseña nuestro hermano Ovidio, que gracias a Dios ha sido una enorme capacidad de trabajo de seguimiento, de conocimiento de la economía, de acciones de una reconstrucción importante; no solo son cifras, como lo dijo claramente, no solo lo decimos, sino que además lo vemos y lo sentimos.
No solo decimos que hay crecimiento económico, que hay estabilidad monetaria, que hay superávit fiscal, que han venido aumentando las exportaciones, la actividad comercial ha aumentado, ha disminuido el desempleo, ha aumentado la ocupación, sino que lo vemos y lo sentimos; lo vemos en las carreteras, en los hospitales, en las escuelas, en los estadios, en los deportes, en esa juventud, lo vemos en todos lados, lo vemos en el internet, en la cobertura de energía; esa es la magia de no solo decirlo, sino también de hacerlo, cada punto de estabilidad monetaria hoy, cada punto de estabilidad inflacionaria, cada punto de crecimiento económico que en los modelos pasados neoliberales significaba: apretar al Pueblo. Hoy significa inversión para nuestro Pueblo, hoy significa Bienestar para nuestro Pueblo, esa es la enorme diferencia.
Por eso es diferente decirlo, ¿cuántas veces no oímos nosotros eso de estabilidad monetaria, de disminuir el déficit fiscal, de buscar superávit?, pero recuerden que eso significaba “apriétense la faja”, eso significaba estrujar al Pueblo, ahora eso que oímos significa Porvenir, significa Bienestar para el Pueblo, significa Salud, Educación, Seguridad.
Pero hermanos nada de eso es posible si no hay Paz, la Paz es necesaria para ese desarrollo económico y para esos impactos sociales que estamos teniendo, ahí hay una relación absolutamente indivisible, entre más crecimiento económico, entre más Bienestar del Pueblo, nos da posibilidades de asegurar la Paz y entre más Paz exista, mayor posibilidad de crecimiento económico y Bienestar del Pueblo; pero todo ello tenemos que estar conscientes que se necesita seguridad, se necesita que estemos alertas, que estemos cuidadosos, que estemos con seguridad preservando la Paz, cuidando la Paz.
Este es una lección permanente que nos da el Comandante Daniel y la Compañera Rosario, prácticamente todos los días, preservar la Paz, cuidar la Paz, estar alerta, ¿cuántas veces nos ha dicho el Comandante Daniel con un ojo abierto siempre?
Esos cuatro puntos tenemos nosotros que trabajar: Paz, para garantizar la Paz necesitamos Seguridad, para garantizar la Seguridad necesitamos organización y estar alertas y todo eso nos da como resultado: crecimiento económico y mejor porvenir de las familias nicaragüenses; y esto a su vez más Seguridad, más Organización y más Paz; y todo ello solo es posible con la Revolución Sandinista, con la guía del Comandante Daniel y la Compañera Rosario y con la Unidad del Pueblo nicaragüense, la Unidad indestructible del Pueblo.
La unidad aquí la vemos reflejada, la unidad con los diferentes partidos políticos en la Junta Directiva, la unidad de todo el Pueblo para sacar adelante y cumplir la directriz central que nos han dado nuestros líderes y que nos da la Revolución, derrotar la pobreza, derrotar la pobreza ese es el objetivo.
Así que hermanos damos por abierta la XLII Legislatura de la Asamblea Nacional

These have been 19 years, Compañeros and Compañeras, 19 years of the People as President, 19 years after having received a disastrous neoliberal legacy, which we can never forget, if only to remind us of what we should never return to.
19 years ago we all remember how our children, the children of our People, of this People who took over the Presidency, were either withdrawn from schools if they could not pay or were not given their grades. We all remember how our people arrived at dilapidated hospitals and left with a bunch of prescriptions in their hands without having their problems resolved, also with the feeling of unease and insecurity that every córdoba spent on medicine meant deciding not to spend it on food for the day; the purchase of food competed with the purchase of medicine.
Those 19 years we have lived so as never to return to the terrible 12 hour power cuts of 19 years ago and we should remember the wrecked vehicles running through our capital city’s damaged streets, which was called collective urban transport, hopefully it will remain just a terrible memory that will never return, one we are sure will not return.
What is the magic of the Revolution? What is the magic of the Sandinista Front? The magic of Nicaraguans? What is the magic of Comandante Daniel and Compañera Rosario, of all the compañeros who have worked and worked non-stop all this time? The magic has been to subordinate everything to the interests of the People President, that's the magic.
The magic is to sense the needs of the People President, to work for the People, that is the magic, because the wonderful statistics that our brother Ovidio Reyes has laid out for us, and who thank God has an enormous capacity for following up with his knowledge of the economy, leading to actions of important reconstruction; these are not just statistics, as he clearly said, we not only cite them but we also see them and feel them.
We not only say there is economic growth, that there is monetary stability, that there is a fiscal surplus or that exports have been increasing, commercial activity has increased, that unemployment has fallen and employment has increased... we see it and feel it; we see it on our highways, in hospitals, in schools, in stadiums, in sports activities, in the country’s youth, we see it everywhere, we see it in access to the internet, in electricity coverage; the magic is not only saying all of this, but in fact making it happen, every point of today’s monetary stability, every point of inflationary stability, every point of economic growth which under past neoliberal models meant squeezing the People. Today it means investing in our People, today it means Well-being for our People, that's the massive difference.
That's why it's different to saying, as we have heard so many times, talk about monetary stability, about reducing the fiscal deficit, about looking for a surplus. But remember that talk meant "tighten your belt”, that meant squeezing the People, now what we hear means a Future, it means Well-being for the People, it means Health, Education and Security.
However sisters and brothers, none of that is possible without Peace, Peace is necessary for all that economic development and all those social impacts we are achieving, this is an absolutely indivisible relationship... more economic growth, more well-being for the People, makes it possible for us to ensure Peace and then the more Peace there is, the greater the possibilities of economic growth and well-being for our People; so in all of this we have to be aware that we need security, we need to be alert, we need to be careful, we need to safely preserve Peace, and protect Peace.
This is a permanent lesson that Comandante Daniel and Compañera Rosario give us, practically every day, to preserve Peace, protect Peace, to be alert, how many times has Comandante Daniel not told us to keep one eye always open?
We have to work on these four points: Peace, to guarantee Peace we need Security, to guarantee Security we need organization and to be alert and all this gives us as a good outcome: economic growth and a better future for Nicaraguan families; and this in turn entails more Security, more Organization and more Peace; and none of this is possible without the Sandinista Revolution, under the guidance of Comandante Daniel and Compañera Rosario and with the Unity of Nicaragua’s People, the indestructible Unity of the People.
We see that unity reflected here, unity among the different political parties on our Executive Board, the unity of all our People to move forward and fulfill the central directive our leaders have given us and which the Revolution gives us, to defeat poverty, defeating poverty is the goal.
So brothers and sisters, we declare open the XLII Legislature of the National Assembly

Long live the Sandinista Front!
